Softpedia was informed a few minutes ago by the OpenMandriva Team about the immediate availability for download of the first Beta build of the upcoming OpenMandriva Lx3 GNU/Linux operating system.
After more than a year of hard work, the Beta 1 release of OpenMandriva Lx3 arrives today with cutting-edge Linux technologies and all the latest software versions, including the KDE Plasma 5.6.1 desktop environment with KDE Frameworks 5.20 and KDE Applications 15.12.3, systemd 229, Linux kernel 4.1.18 LTS, Mesa 11.2 and X.Org Server 1.18.2.
“With making it better, better and better we decided to make a cut and finally release the Beta1 of OpenMandriva Lx3,” said Kate Lebedeff in the announcement. “The use of the Clang/llvm compiler to generate the majority of the code combined with Link Time Optimisation (LTO) has created and operating system that is fast stable and efficient.”
Experimental KDE Plasma 5 on Wayland support
The default desktop environment of the OpenMandriva operating system has always been built on top of the latest KDE technologies, and with this first Beta build, users can now finally test drive the KDE Plasma 5 desktop environment under the next-generation Wayland display server.
While the KDE Plasma 5 on Wayland session has been optimized to run as smoothly as possible, it is considered experimental, at least in the Beta 1. Today’s release of OpenMandriva Lx3 also introduces the latest version of the lightweight LXQt 0.10.0 desktop environment, as a fallback session. The LibreOffice 5.1.1 and Calligra 2.9.11 office suites are also included.
Early adopters can download the OpenMandriva Lx3 Beta 1 Live ISO image for 64-bit architectures right now via our website and take them for a test drive. Please try to keep in mind that this is a pre-release version, which means that it is not suitable for deployment in production environments.
